Former Olympic skier Jeremy Nobis was discovered deἀd on Wednesday in his cell. At the 1994 Winter Olympics, the 52-year-old competed for Team USA in the giant slalom and placed ninth.
According to the Iron/Garfield/Beaver Critical Incident Task Force, Nobis was discovered unattended and alone in his cell in Cedar City, Utah.
A statement said: “Life-saving efforts were attempted by Iron County Jail staff.”
“Although no foul play is suspected, the Critical Incident Task Force is looking into this incident,” it continued.
According to St George News, Nobis was waiting for his sentence to be given in a DUI case when he pἀssed away. According to reports, he was found guilty of DUI on March 7; his sentencing hearing is set on April 25.
A few weeks before his detention, Ski Magazine revealed in a piece that Nobis was also facing accusations in Colorado, Idaho, and Wyoming.

Nobis was known as “The Icon” during his skiing career for taking on some of the most difficult routes in the world.
In the late 1980s, he joined the American Alpine Ski Team and went on to win two World Junior Championships in 1988 and 1989. In a statement announcing Nobis’ pἀssing, the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team said: “U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends, and the ski community.”
