Gabriella Papadakis Facts
She first teamed up with Cizeron at the age of 9 or 10 in Clermont-Ferrand. Their decision to join hands was suggested by her mother Catherine, who also coached them at the beginning of their partnership.
Papadakis and Cizeron debuted on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series in 2009-10 during which they finished at 15th place at the JGP United States. They placed 22nd at the 2010 World Junior Championships.
In the 2010-11 season, the duo finished 4th at JGP France and then later won bronze at their 2nd event held in Austria. She and Cizeron advanced to 12th at the 2011 World Junior Championships.
After having broken world records numerous times, Papadakis and Cizeron became the historical world record holders in short dance, free dance, and combined total. They also happen to be the first team to have broken the 90-point barrier in the rhythm dance, 120-point, and 130-point barriers in the free dance. The duo also became the first team to score above the 200-point, 210-point, and 220-barriers in the combined total score.
They are recognized for their graceful and balletic style. Moreover, their programs which are inspired by modern dance have been described as lyrical.
In the 2013-14 season, they moved up to their senior level and made their senior international debut at the International Cup of Nice during which they were gold medalists.
In January 2015, the pair ranked first in both segments of the 2015 European Championships held in Stockholm, winning the gold medal by a margin of 8.45 points against world champs Anna Cappellini and Luna Lanotte.
They competed at the World Championships held in Shanghai, China, in March 2015, where they finished 4th in the short dance and first in the free dance, finishing first overall. Papadakis and Cizeron were the first French skaters to win a World title since 2008 and the youngest World champions in ice dance in 49 years.
On August 28, 2015, Papadakis sustained a cerebral concussion after a fall in practice. Because of this, they withdrew from the Master’s de Patinage in Orléans scheduled in the 2nd week of October and from their Grand Prix events scheduled on November 12, 2015. They made their comeback in December during which they won their second national title.
Papadakis and Cizeron won their 5th French national title at the 2019 European Championships, setting new world records in the process.
